I do love a face mask. I need to make more time for them. I’ve wanted to try out a charcoal mask for ages but I have to admit, the internet put me off a bit. I would love one of those masks that you peel off – I think seeing all the shit come off your skin would be really satisfying – but it looks really painful! So, for me, this mask is a really good compromise. The concept is the same and it does the job, but without having to rip a sticky mask off your face.
One of the things that I particularly liked about this one was that there’s a brush to go with it, completely eliminating mess, and making application much easier and more consistent. If you read my post on The Body Shop’s brushes, I’m sure you’ll know how pleased I was when this turned up with a brush to go with it.
Anyway, here’s what you really want to know: did it work? Well, The Body Shop claim that this mask ‘draws out impurities and refines the appearance of pores for healthy-looking skin with a glow that shows’ – my skin definitely felt a lot softer, looked healthy, felt clean, felt firmer, and when I took it off I felt like I was getting quite a good exfoliation from it, too. I kind of wish I’d got the muslin cloth to go with it for that reason; to get it off you have to scrub (which is where the exfoliating comes in) and I just used my hands and a flannel to remove it which felt a bit rough so I’d recommend a softer cloth.
One thing I will say is that if, like me, you have sensitive skin, I wouldn’t put it too close to the eye area. The first time I used it I just slathered it on without much care, leaving a small gap under my eyes, and my under-eye area started to sting a bit so just be aware of that if you do give this mask a go. Once I’d removed it from too close to my eyes it was fine, and has been fine when I’ve used it since.
Another successful product from The Body Shop – I can’t say I’m surprised…
