On Donald Trump

This has been brewing for a little while. It’s such a controversial subject and I’m 95% sure that I will be trolled for this post but to be completely honest, I don’t care.

Where do you even start on a subject like this? There’s so much to say. I simply can’t believe that this is what the world has come to. I’m completely unable to comprehend how this could happen. But it has.

When I see that people are currently being deported, separated from their friends, families, pets, some unable to return to their home country after a trip away from America, my heart aches. I read one particular case last week of a woman who’d lived and worked in America for years and went home to visit her family and was unable to come back into America – her home country – on her return. She left behind her home, her pets, her car, her life. Because of what? Because she’s a threat? A woman who has been living and working in America for the majority of her life and contributed to the economy for that time is suddenly a threat? I don’t buy it.

For all of those people whose lives have been torn apart by the new American president, I am truly sorry. I am truly sorry that people are still so ignorant, bigoted and downright stupid towards you and your race or religion. I stand with you. I stand with every single innocent person who has been pulled from their homes and forced to start a new life with no real warning.

But as well as this, my heart is heavy for all the women who may no longer have a say in what happens to their own bodies. Personally, my views are convicted on abortion anyway but I believe that it’s about choice. To all the women who fall pregnant as a result of rape or sexual assault, the women who are financially unprepared or simply not ready to have a child for various reasons, who are now unable to access an abortion safely.

I can only wonder – and dread – what will happen next. Whose lives will be changed next. Right now I feel ashamed. I feel ashamed of humanity and I simply cannot understand to even some degree how this could have happened.

The world is a scary place right now, but I can’t even imagine the effect that this is having on people. I simply can’t understand it. But I definitely sympathise and to every single person that has been wronged by Donald Trump’s America – whether this be on the basis of race, religion, sexuality, gender – I stand with you. Many do. And that won’t change. Unfortunately, that’s probably of no use now. It’s too late. Donald Trump and every single person that voted him in have absolutely fucked it. I am just so, so sorry.

I totally agree with you Hannah, so many people have been wronged by Trump and I too am ashamed of all the bigoted, racist people that fill the world. I try and forgive them, remembering myself that most of them are probably very scraed and uneducated… It still makes me angry though, but I think we shouldn’t lose hope. Like you said, so many people are standing against Trump… Something will have to change and it will, eventually. And let’s hope it’s a change for the best…
